Dr. Lillian Nejad, Clinical Psychologist
Lillian Nejad, PhD, is a registered and endorsed clinical psychologist and author with over 20 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of individuals with mild to severe psychological issues and disorders. She currently has a private practice in Brighton, Victoria.
Lillian's mission is to promote accurate and nonjudgmental views on mental health, and to provide REAL information and strategies for a variety of psychological problems, issues and disorders based on REAL evidence and REAL experience in an accessible, genuine and engaging manner that fosters positive change for everyone involved.
EXPERIENCE
A significant proportion of her work has been in Specialist and Senior Psychologist positions within public mental health services in inpatient and community settings. She has also held Lecturer positions in the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology program and the Masters of Health Psychology program at Monash University and she continues to train postgraduate students as a sessional lecturer and clinical supervisor. Lillian’s broad range of experience in mental health and university settings has led to a number of specialist areas and interests including:

Dialectical Behaviour Treatment for borderline personality disorder, and

Relaxation and Mindfulness techniques to manage stress and enhance well-being.
She also has extensive experience and skills in treating individuals with a range of personal difficulties such as body image and disordered eating/exercise, grief and loss, health problems, past trauma, self-harm, life transition issues, risk-taking behaviours/addictions, interpersonal issues (shyness, communication), and self esteem.
Lillian combines her use of evidence based therapeutic interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) with humanistic and positive psychology principles that focuses on helping clients identify and work toward value-driven goals to achieve long-term improvements in quality of life and overall well-being.
In addition to psychological treatment with individuals, she has been active in the areas of group work, professional development, clinical supervision, developing original resources for clients and clinicians, and quality improvement and research.
Lillian is also the Founder of Skills for Life, a platform that offers online courses full of evidence-based skills and strategies to improve your quality of life at work and at home. Lillian is dedicated to ensuring that her work is cutting edge, high quality, and evidence-based through continuous education with leaders in the field of psychology and by her commitment to evaluative processes in her work with individuals and groups, and in her delivery of education and training to postgraduate students, psychologists, GPs, psychiatrists, mental health nurses, occupational therapists and social workers.
Lillian is a member of the Australian Psychological Society’s College of Clinical Psychologists and an international affiliate of the American Psychological Association. She has also served on the reference committee for the Creating Safety project with the Chief Psychiatrist’s office in Victoria and was a Board Member and Secretary for the Victorian Psychologists’ Association.
She is a published author. Her book, Treating Stress and Anxiety: A Practitioner's Guide to Evidence-Based Approaches and CD: Relaxation: Techniques to Reduce Anxiety and Stress and Enhance Well-Being (2008) have received excellent reviews from experts in the field and the general public.
Lillian recently released her first book of a series called 'LIFEBLOCKERS'. LIFEBLOCKERS are the obstacles that prevent you from living the life you want for yourself. LIFEBLOCKERS: The Sleep Edition (2018) is the first book in the LIFEBLOCKERS series and addresses difficulties related to insomnia. Insomnia is the ultimate LIFEBLOCKER because getting enough sleep is absolutely necessary for your health and well-being and a prolonged lack of sleep can have a negative impact on all aspects of life. She is working on the next book in the LIFEBLOCKERS series on ANXIETY.
She also writes blogs related to improving mental health and overall health. Lillian has provided content and contributed as an expert source for various organisations and media outlets including The Age, Mamamia, The House of Wellness, Man of Many, MINDFOOD, Women's Health & Fitness, and Elle Magazine.
Lillian has also appeared on radio and television and supported projects including Rebel Sport's and Bianca Chatfield's Ignitiion project that mentors young female athletes. Lillian also hosted the podcast, Life Skills for Leaders and has been a guest on many podcasts to talk about mental health.
